The Big Apple, The Mecca, and Mount Rushmore. Nothing beats this lineup. It's the paragon of all-time greats. It's an unwritten plaque or an award - more like appreciation of your achievement or status, so it seemed.

We don't want to sound grand and generously copious in giving out these terms; one can agree that earning a ticket for a dinner table with these names would have been massively hard to meet. Though it's somehow true, you must know your turf belongs to this clique.

In all things considered, all of the categories we have in mind have this what we so-called "Greats." A term was coined deemed appropriate as the "informal" highest praise from their peer and fans - AKA, The "G.O.A.T."

To be labeled as "GOAT," you must have what it takes to be the best. You need to be at least the best at multiple disciplines on a particular sport or art. That same meterstick that measured the greats before is also used for this age, like our beloved Cannabis. Everything's equal after all, right?

In this article, we compiled a list of strains we think might be considered as "GOATS." We narrowed it down from a sea of strains our there. It might be different on your plate and subjective in different facets. Still, we can all agree that every strain hits different for different people and experiences.

What makes a Marijuana Strain Great?

While many other aspects contribute to a strain's overall reputation as being great, the fragrance is the distinguishing feature of a superb one.

"It's all about the terpene profile," says Aaron of D.N.A. Genetics, a cannabis legend responsible for some of the world's most famous strains and sought-after genetics, like L.A. Confidential, Tangie, and Holy Grail Kush, to name a few. "Flavonoids, terpenes, aroma, smell, and flavor." Those are the first and most significant things to me."

In addition to that, Chiah Rodriguez, the second-generation farmer behind River Txai Farms, a Mendocino enterprise marketed by Arcanna Flowers, emphasizes the scent of the bloom translating to the flavor of the smoke. "High terpenes and something that has a distinct nose and sort of strikes you in the face when you open the drawer," Rodriguez said when asked what makes a strain excellent.

A balanced cannabinoid profile is essential in addition to a fantastic terpene profile that transfers over into the smoking experience. A superb cannabinoid profile, according to Julia Jacobson, C.E.O. of Mendocino-based, ecologically aware firm Aster Farms, comes second to potency.

The strain's effect on the cannabis world is the final component that can contribute to its greatness. These strains gained appeal because of their distinct terpene profiles, but they went on to become cultural phenoms in their own right, helping to define the products and crosses we now enjoy.

The List

#1 Grand Daddy Purple

Granddaddy Purple (or G.D.P.) is a well-known Indica hybrid, with a strong grape and berry scent from its Purple Urkle father and a dense bud structure from Big Bud.

G.D.P. petals bloom in deep purple, providing a lovely backdrop for its snow-like sprinkling of white trichomes. Its powerful benefits are sensed mostly in the body and growers like G.D.P. for its large yields.

This tasty bud gives fruity tastes and calming effects, making it ideal for going asleep at the end of a long day. Its purple foliage makes it one of the most beautiful buds available.

#2 Super Silver Haze

It's no accident that the Super Silver Haze is the only other Cannabis Cup champion to win back-to-back. When it comes to lethal Haze strains, she and her daughter (Super Lemon Haze, at #18) are practically identical, with the only notable variation being the addition of Lemon Skunk. The S.S.H., which was bred from superior Hazeback crosses, has all of the true-breeding landrace sativas and a quarter NL #5 and a quarter Skunk #1.

This strain registered the highest lab-tested T.H.C. level was 17.87 percent in Los Angeles, 2014, at an H.T. Cannabis Cup.

#3 OG Kush

OG Kush is one of the most popular strains of all time, having significantly influenced several West Coast strains. Its origins are unknown, but legend has it that this famed hybrid was bred in Florida in the 1990s from a mix of Chemdawg, Lemon Thai, and the Hindu Kush. It's not simply the unmistakable lemon-diesel-and-pine scent and calming effects on both body and mind that make OG Kush so popular.

When the strain was introduced to California in 1996, it became the ancestor of several notable strains, including S.F.V. OG Kush and Rascal's OG Kush, the father strains of Hell's Fire O.G.

#4) Sour Diesel

If there were a conflict between Cannabis Gods, it would be their subjective approach to Marijuana flavor. It would be better to award a "Michelin Star" for the most outstanding Cannabis flavor. But, the thing is, it's still in the womb, waiting for conception.

For all we know, when it comes to the variety of popping flavors, it's like an unforbidden marriage when your tastebuds reach the pinnacle of what Cannabis can offer. It's a mouthful, easy to digest when you know what I mean!

#5) G13

G13, commonly known as "Government Strain 1," is the first and only strain believed to have been grown by the Motherland. Though there are several rumors about this Indica's historical significance, the general agreement appears to be that multiple government organizations produced G13 at the University of Mississippi's sole legal cannabis research lab and a large stockpile of best-in-class strains from across the world. Sounds like the government has a foreshadowing of what could be a billion-dollar industry.

In the late 1980s, a cutting of G13 was smuggled into Holland, where it took off and became the mother of many strains we use today.

#6) Original Haze or Nevil's Haze

This strain is a must-have. Many people love it, and the reason we put it here is its rich heritage and history. It put itself on the shelf, then on to the history book pioneering the Amsterdam lineage. It started as a movement, slowly becoming popular and gaining confidence. Little did we know t this created a vital trading route for Cannabis and spearheaded the journey of Cannabis dissemination to different continents.

That's it! We had a fair share of strain, we want you to know. Please let us know below what we have missed from your favorite stash drawer. YEP!
