Unlike many other states, getting a medical cannabis card in Oklahoma is relatively a quick and simple process. But don't expect to get it overnight as it is still a process. Follow these steps to apply for a medical card in Oklahoma.

How to Apply for Medical Marijuana in Oklahoma

Here are the steps showing everything you will need and what it takes to apply for medical marijuana in Oklahoma. The program is easy to apply for, so make sure and check out all the steps if you'd like to use marijuana medicinally.

Step one: Find a doctor who will recommend medical cannabis

This step is pretty straight forward. You need to find a doctor that is participating in the program and is familiar with the program.

Just to be clear, Not all doctors are required to participate in the medical marijuana program. If you current doctor doesn't participate it's not really hard to find those that do simply head over to Weedmaps or Leafly to find a list of doctors that do participate but there is a much larger list if you head over to the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority website to find an updated list of physicians who do make recommendations.

Some dispensaries do patient drives, with medical professionals on-site to consult with potential patients. Some others have referral programs where they’ll send a patient to a doctor familiar with medical cannabis, and then reimburse the patient for any cost associated during their first visit.

Step two: Visit The Doctor

At the appointment, bring a blank copy of the OMMA’s Physician Recommendation Form and be prepared to have a conversation about why you’re looking to get a medical marijuana card.

Qualifying conditions for a medical marijuana card in Oklahoma

This is simple, unlike most states that have a strict list of prequalifying conditions in Oklahoma you do not have to have any. There is no list of state-approved qualifying conditions in Oklahoma.

Note: This process is for Oklahoma residents that are 18 years or older. Oklahoma residents that are looking for a medical recommendation for a minor there is a separate process that requires a second opinion and recommendation and information from the parent or caregiver.

Step three: Apply online for your Oklahoma medical marijuana card

Once you have your recommendation go to the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority website and submit your online application. Your online application form must be submitted within 30 days from the doctor's recommendation.

When applying for you Oklahoma MMJ Card, you will need the following information and documents:

Patient’s full name
Proof of identity
Address, and proof of residency
Date of Birth
Phone
Email address
Physician’s contact information

The following unexpired, valid documentation is required for the application:

Proof of Oklahoma residency (digital, color copy of one of the following):
Oklahoma driver’s license (front and back)
Oklahoma identification card (front and back)
Oklahoma voter identification card
A utility bill for the calendar month preceding the date of application, excluding cellular telephone and internet bills
A residential property deed to property in the State of Oklahoma
A current rental agreement for residential property located in the State of Oklahoma

Proof of identity (digital, color copy of one of the following):
Oklahoma driver’s license (front and back)
Oklahoma identification card (front and back)
U.S. passport or other photo identification issued by the U.S government
Tribal identification card approved for identification purposes by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety:
United States Bureau of Indian Affairs identification card or a Oklahoma tribal photo identification cards: Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma, Kiowa, Comanche, Apache of Oklahoma, Absentee Shawnee, Cheyenne-Arapaho, Choctaw, Delaware, Caddo Nation of Oklahoma issued on or after January 8, 2008.

A clear, color, full-face digital photograph
2 Year or 60-Day Adult Patient Physician Recommendation Form dated within 30 days of application submission.
If applicable, the patient’s Medicaid (SoonerCare) enrollment documentation, Medicare insurance card, or letter from the Veteran's Administration or other federal agency listing the applicant's disability status as 100% disabled

NOTE: It is worth stating that MOST doctors will file your information for you for a small filing fee.

Step four: Pay the fee and submit your application to OMMA

The standard application fee is $100. If you provide proof of Medicaid (SoonerCare) or Medicare enrollment or status as a 100% disabled veteran will pay a reduced fee of $20. Application fees must be paid by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit or debit card. An additional credit card processing fee will be added to the transaction. These application and processing fees are non-refundable.

How long before you get a response to your application?

Whether you are approved or disapproved you should expect your response from the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority within 2 weeks from the time you submitted your application.

If you are approved the OMMA says that your card will be mailed to you within 14 days.

Step five: Find a Dispensary to Visit

Once you have been approved you should start finding dispensaries that are close to you and start looking for what is available. Your OMMA card will allow you to visit any of the over 2000+ licensed dispensaries in the state.

It is important to know the possession limits and the Oklahoma Marijuana laws that do surround your new journey into the Oklahoma cannabis industry.

Possess up to 3 oz of cannabis on your person
