Fond du Lac County, WI - In a surprising and shocking turn of events, Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt recently announced that one of his officers' routine traffic stops on Interstate 41 Friday resulted in the arrest as well as uncovering an immense stash of marijuana products, $70,000 cash, and a firearm.
The initial stop was prompted by suspicions when they observed a southbound vehicle rapidly exiting onto S Hickory Street before quickly pulling into Kwik Trip to avoid detection.
Sheriff Waldschmidt was shocked to hear his deputy discovered cannabis in plain view when he conducted the routine traffic stop for multiple moving and equipment violations. The suspicious odor of marijuana could be smelled from outside the vehicle, confirming their suspicions.
When the driver was exiting the vehicle, the deputy made an unexpected discovery-a loaded handgun tucked away in the vehicle's door jamb. Upon further investigation, it became clear that the suspect did not possess a concealed carry permit for the handgun.
While the suspect was detained the deputy also found almost 30 bags of THC-infused candy and around $70,000 in cash.
The sheriff's office apprehended the 23-year-old Langlade County man on numerous drug and firearm charges. Adding to the severity of his situation, it turns out that he was also wanted for felony attempting to elude a police officer in Portage County.
The ongoing investigation by the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group drug task force is continuing to uncover evidence linking a large sum of cash with possible drug-related activity. No further information is currently available.
