There are some movements in the courts and state legislatures regarding marijuana across different states. In February, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed three separate cannabis reform bills into law that formally legalize the use and possession of recreational marijuana in the Garden State. The laws are workplace-related that set aside employers by having strong non-discrimination rules for recreational cannabis users. The law’s provision on employment will only become official once the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission adopts implementing regulations.
On the other hand, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill legalizing recreational cannabis in the state of New York. This includes a law to protect cannabis use when they are not on the job. It was followed by a halt to conduct pre-employment cannabis testing that implies discriminatory practice.
Across several states, the jurisdiction on this is catching up. The most recent development includes Alabama, Connecticut, Montana, New Mexico, Philadelphia, and Virginia.
Alabama legalized only certain forms of medical marijuana but emphasized that there are no plans to authorize the use of recreational marijuana. Connecticut, joined New York and New Jersey, legalized recreational cannabis when the governor signed legislation into law early this year.
